Last Regret

My heart was still

As was the night

As angels flew in catastrophic flight,

And the song of ages

Played distantly

As the mesmerizing filigree,

Cast down by angelic light

Lifted the shadows of my plight,

Revealed from out of the darkening

Sad memories of way back when.

Of how life had passed by my way

And I had let if drift away

And now with moments of final breathe

I consider now all my regrets,

Opportunities missed

That went unseen

I think of the folly of focusing,

On other matters, which did distract

And left my life so abstract

No focused channel on which to view

To many choices had accrued,

That did not help my spiritual growth

But at least I abided by my oath

To live a good life of compassion and peace

A being of love and living life kindly.

It was then I took my final breathe

And with it went my last regret.
