We once loved so madly
But now we miss each other sadly,
Our passionate fire burnt so hot
Yet it burned for such a short time,
Intense though it may have been
We could never hope to keep it going,
And when it all just fell apart
There was so much deep acrimony,
There were tears and there was anger
There was so much bitterness and spite,
But now the dust has settled
I think we both must question why,
Two people who were so in lov
Can end up hurting each other this way,
And is it not kind of strange
Knowing we could never love that way again,
It’s sad but this is also true
There’s a permanent barrier between me and you,
And love will never come to our rescue,
It’s forever over and there’s nothing more that is the ultimate and clear truth now.
Apologies for the perhaps over-quick comment before… by lovely, I meant I was loving the rhymes and rhythm and fluidity of expression in this one, as I genuinely admire in all your poetry… but the thoughts are sad indeed. The poem’s question is a good one… and maybe it’s that it wasn’t love but some other feeling, that was hurting. Love doesn’t hurt… That one line, “permanent barrier” is perhaps the saddest of all… it’s difficult to work through our own barriers, but I don’t believe they are permanent, or that much is, really, other than true love itself, maybe, which goes with the flow, dissolving barriers… passing through different people at different times. Sending lots of love to you, and thanks for sharing your poetry, and your kind and loving support around WP 🙏💛💛
