Dappled shade

Dapplong sun through the trees

Casting sunlight and shade

On this autumn day.

Silence pierced  by sounds of birds

An autumn spring song the sweetest heard.

Yet somewhere near

Not too far,

Evil does lurk

In someplace dark.

Feel the chilled edge breeze

That does its best to unsettle me

This place among the trees and undergrowth

Within this wood has seen man’s deeds.

A place where death is no unknown

From centuries before, now overgrown

The wood hides these secrets deep beneath

It’s loamy soil and fallen leaves.

Yet in this preternatural silence

Faintly I hear the screams of violence

I hear the weeping of despair

Of the families of the lost who died there.

Menacing and sad this is

I take a walk remembering everything

And now amazed by the peace that now dwells here

Gone indeed is all the fear.

Maybe this is how all this earth will one day be

A place of beauty, grace and peace.
