Down among the mango trees

Down among the mango trees,

In the insidious  swamp,

Down in the water,

Adventuring for life.

On a distant planet,

Where the humidity

Is off the scale,

It rains all the time

And the heat can make you frail.

Down in the swamps

You can hear strange

Creatures call,

Down by the waters edge,

Creatures slither

And they crawl.

And as we make our way

Through branches,

Hacking as we go,

We realise something

Is watching us,

That’s primordial and old.

Yet still we carry on,

Adventuring all the time,

Looking at the trees and water

Studying the nature so sublime.

Then the thing that is stalking us

Starts to pick up speed,

It’s now decided to charge us,

So we turn upon our heels,

And run as fast as we can go

Hacking branches out of our way,

Mindful of the fact

That we have just become the prey.

Then through the damp and heat

The makes our clothes wet

And hinders breathe,

We keep on running quickly,

In a struggle for life and death.

We keep hacking

we keep focused on our path ahead,

Out of fear and concern

And the feeling it is breathing

down our necks.

And as we feel our plight and doom

Will finally be met here,

We burst out of the swamp

In to an area so clear,

And populated by people

Just staring at us,

Then we realise whatever

It was has given the chase up.

We collapse on all fours

Coughing and spluttering for air,

When  stranger comes and speaks

Saying you were lucky there.

For nobody adventures

In those swamps and tells the tale.’

And we realise how fortunate

We were to make it on this trail.

Our group discusses a new strategy

And that’s to from now on

Agree to play it safe

And look to carry on adventuring

In a less dangerous place.
