Deception

Sat across the table from each other

he looked at her as she gazed down

at the laminated table top.

‘It is OK’ he said ‘everything will be fine,

all things end.’

He blonde hair hung down covering her face

as a tear dropped silently onto the table.

‘it was not my aim to hurt you but I can not do this anymore,’

her voice was husky and full of emotion.

With that he stood up brushed back his hair with his fingers

and headed for the door.

As he did this she looked at her phone

that she had taken from her pocket of her

coat and sent a text.

‘Deed done I am all yours’,

she stood up slipped her phone back into her pocket

swept back her blonde hair with her hand and smiled.

Turning she walked away to leave and came face to face with him again.

He looked her in the eyes and smiled ‘I am the best thing you will never have.’

Once again he turned, but this time he left without even looking back.

She remained stood stuck and abashed as everyone around her looked

shaking their heads at her deception.

Very well written…..it’s a whole story in a microcosm. I love the line about his being the best thing she will never have…….most of the time the grass is not greener on the other side. And, your portrayal of the girl in the story….well done, first you feel bad for her, then she reveals the deception, and your whole viewpoint changes. Liked it very much 🙂

You write well. It isn’t easy to tell a whole story in just a few words.
