My days cleaning

I spent many years

Buffing floors,

Shining them up

More and more.

A meticulous cleaner

Cleanliness proud,

I have an eye for the detail

And many ask me now,

Was cleaning a vocation

It’s a menial job,

Paid very little

Only a few bob,

Compared to those accountants

And bankers in good jobs

But I did this with the same pride

As these people do.

It’s not how worthy the job is,

It’s how worthy are you,

To do whatever it takes

To earn a wage

Just so the bills can be paid

But doing the best that you

Or anyone else can,

Is the mark of a person

The mark of a man or woman.

  1. It is not what job you have, it is about doing it with joy and pride and bringing it to perfection. Therefore perfecting yourself. Beautifully written.
