When we err

We erred forsooth

And in that erring

We did fail ourself

And let down

Those that rely on us

Yet we are not their guardians

And not shield or protector are we

So why feel so bad about erring

For we have a conscience

And a sense of caring

We live with hearts wide open

And let others tread within

In this some say that is folly

But we set high standards for ourselves

While demanding nothing from others

We judge no one for we feel that not to be right

Yet we judge ourselves harshly

But that is just us

Our expectations are self focused

We forgive others

More than we are prepared to forgive ourselves

We are our own greatest critics

Yet all of this is f ine as long as we recta in self love

For that is all that matters.
