Governments promise you one thing and then do another

It’s like breaking a promise to a lover,

You get your hopes up and you expect them to see it through

Only then for them to disappoint you,

You feel betrayed ain’t that the truth

It’s not something anyone should do,

Get your hopes up then not see it through

That’s not the path honourable people choose,

Which is why people break up, it’s true,

And seek something more trustworthy

With someone who won’t lie to you,

But breaking promises and lying

Is the things governments constantly do,

So maybe it’s time to tell that we’re done and through,

And that we want more trusting and honourable people to rule,

Ones that won’t keep letting down me and you.
