By degrees I see
I am reaching into darkness,
I see as I leave the light of earth
I cross the void in to space,
Burning hopes of blighty
Part of a pioneering race,
Seeking new planets to inhabit
To cultivate for others to follow,
Leaving our ruined world behind
Leaving behind, misery, poverty, destruction and sorrow,
To find a new Eden of which mankind can furrow,
This is not a story for today
But a tale, a nightmare of tomorrow,
Where we destroyed our beautiful home,
And now we are pioneering nomads drifting out into space.
