Rugged terrain a biting winds
Rocks, black sand and ash covering skin,
I walk across the glacier to climb the peak
Of a volcano to hope to seek,
A glimpse inside the molten pot
Boiling and furiously hot,
This is what’s from the core of our earth
The essence that gives all life worth,
Wearing a mask to hold back the carbon poison
I keep going, I keep myself in motion,
Then as I reach the ledge of it
And standing on the edge of the precipice,
I am awestruck by it preternatural power
From this lava nature flowers,
If it were to diminish so would we
If it were to cool, we would see,
Then of the lives of all species
We need more than just the air that we breathe,
You see, there’s balance in everything that causes us to be.
