Sanctuary without question

A man flees danger to a safe place

And asks for sanctuary,

If we can give it, do we do it?

Out of compassion and integrity,

After all it’s the right thing to do

Rather than pointing them

To somewhere else,

Even though we have enough space

And because we have enough wealth,

But if we send them away because

We do not like their colour, sex or faith,

Surely then we bring shame upon ourselves

For acting in a discriminatory way,

Then our sanctuary then becomes stained

And tainted by doing the wrong thing,

Because we should treat all people with care

For are we not all human beings.
