Complex afflictions

There are those who struggle with addiction

It’s complicated like many afflictions,

It is a mental health condition that has a physical addition,

Can’t get the body back right if the mind is going to fight

Any possibility of getting better and giving the body what it needs,

A rest from the poisonous toxins being ingested,

Through many different types of drugs

And no matter how much you take it’s never enough,

While you are chasing that very first ever high

Keep taking more until one day you die,

Taking you away from life’s brutal realities

Because you can’t cope with society,

So you see drugs are the answer to everything,

Be it through, booze, cannabis, heroine or crystal meth or crack

It covers up the the pain or problems that set you back,

And there’s not enough help to get you back on track,

And we should be doing a lot more

That dissuades you from wanting to score,

But society just writes addicts off and they don’t really give a toss,

Pass by them in the street, step over them and see them as weak,

Not as victims who cannot cope

And who has abdicated any hope,

For themselves and their future

They’re all sitting in the waiting room patiently,

Waiting for death to come so that they be relieved

From trying to exist is this fucked up society,

That has little or no compassion or empathy,

There is no real knowing though of what is going on in the heads

Of addicts who live in misery and who are eventually going to end up dead,

What more can be said if people just don’t care enough,

About their fellow man or about themselves.
