Gratitude often requires experience

Money cannot buy happiness

But if you are wealthy,

Never tell a person in poverty this

For we, who are not wealthy,

Will only understand this truth

By experiencing wealth,

And discovering it for ourselves.

If you say poison will kill you

And as a result all who drink it die

Then you should know not to try it,

But if you say money doesn’t buy happiness

And yet many are seen thriving on it

Then it is obvious we will want to sample this,

As we know it is unlikely to kill us.

Life is about discovery through experience

And gratitude can be gained from this,

Not from being lectured by those who

Through whatever means have tried it,

While the rest of us have been denied it.

To have been sad and then happy teaches us

The gratitude of how much better being happy makes you,

The same applies to wealth but to few ever get to find out

How wealth and materialism can affect their lives.
