Christmas reunion

Christmas time is finally here and as a mother of two small excitable children, Polly felt it was important to do the shopping while fitting in the Santa visit, but as she struggled with her little one in the buggy and the other child pulling her in different directions, it was all very stressful. Previous years were easier before her husband died in a car crash, now it was so much harder.

Standing in the Santa queue she was sweating, and the queue was not short. Her stress levels were getting higher as the children shouted and screamed more in excitement. She then checked her purse and realised she could only just afford the entry.

As she reached the guarded doorway of the grotto, she saw the warm smile of the female elf, ‘family ticket’ she asked, ‘whatever is cheapest Polly. the elf smiled seeing how stressed out she was, ‘special Santa deal then’ she chirped cheerfully and led them through a side panel. As Polly stepped through she felt instantly cooler than she did in the hot sweltering mall, looking down she saw what looked for all the world like real snow. Then realised it was, the elf stood beside her and took her two children off towards a wooden cabin, she went to follow, until she saw her husband appear out of snow covered trees, it shocked her so much, that she lost her bearings and words. He walked up to her and smiled warmly, ‘It’s so good to see you again, I’ve missed you so much.,’ gasping for air she cried, ‘is this real?’ Tom her husband replied ‘Yes.’ at that she let all her stress and emotions go, burst into tears and kissed him passionately and he responded likewise. The children then came out with Santa and the elf and ran to Polly and Tom and they all hugged, the elf left them altogether and walked back through the curtain. She continued to smile as a tear ran down her cheek.

Later that night on the news it was reported that a mother and her two children while on their way to see Santa were killed after a car lost control and mounted the kerb. At the scene you could see among the onlookers a woman dressed as an elf beckoning something unseen. Then walking off as if guiding someone from the scene.

  2. Is an emotional story that blends elements of everyday life with magical and supernatural touches to explore how love and the Christmas spirit can offer comfort even in the most tragic circumstances.
