A wasteful age

Take a look around and what do you see?

In many cases all you spy is nature’s beauty,

But I see the fly tip unwanted crap

Somewhere behind the bushes at the back,

And I am outraged as I get it cleared, it’s unacceptable

But it’s only a fraction of our waste, of which much goes abroad,

And ends up on the beaches of Nigeria and Africa

Out of sight and mind so as it doesn’t distract you from,

Buying mindless crap that we don’t really need

Instant gratification is a human disease,

And when we’re bored with these things we don’t want to see

Where it gets disposed of and who suffers through our greed,

Out of sight and out of mind it helps us sleep

But the consequences of materialism are what feeds the beast,

A byproduct of living in a machine driven technological society,

Where people barely notice because they don’t look up from their screens.
