How life has changed

There was a time, where cottage industries

Meant the families determined their own destinies,

But they were wiped away by the corporate industry

Who needed slaves to produce goods to build upon their greed,

And so the men went and worked in factories

And we’re dependent on these jobs to provide for the family,

But as time passed and dazzled by material things

We became entranced by credit and debt and owning so many things,

Like cars and houses, which became the anaesthetic of our misery,

And as this grew, corporations then called upon women

To enter into contracts of the same form of slavery,

But this was hidden by the philosophy

Of female liberation and the rise of matriarchy,

And driven by more material needs they have not seen it

And so now we are all slaves of work that’s become the priority,

Above and beyond, sadly of family

So it should be, of no great surprise that kids today,

Grow up, with issues even though in spite

Of having everything, except time as a family,

Because we’ve made material things and work as our priority,

Thanks to the control exerted by the corporate machine.
