What you see is what you get

Allow me to say hello,

Stand in front of you

And tell you what you already know

This is me

And what you get is what you see

And that’s your lot.

I am not blessed with literacy

Or much in the way of creativity

But this is me

Just me reciting my poetry.

It all comes from the heart

I just bare myself to you

And hope that this enough for you

My soul is open Wide

The words I speak are words of truth

As I decide, to prostrate myself in front of you.

So please be kind

Understand this is the only way

I can convey to you

How I feel and think to you

For when I speak my words rush through my mind

And they get tangled up

So I choose to use rhyme

To get my message through.

But this is me

And what you get is what you see

And that’s your lot.

When I was younger I was so full of energy

But now I am older life’s still hard for me

But I struggle on

Because in my mind I am still young

It’s the only way I can be

It’s the only way I know how to think.

But this is me

And what you get is what you see

And that’s your lot

But I thank you for listening to me

And my poetry

Of that I am glad indeed

For this is me

And what you get is what you see

And that’s your lot.
