Grew up in a maelstrom
Of mindless violence,
Grew up in an atmosphere
Of total silence,
Where if others had something
Someone else wanted,
They would just seize
The chance and take it,
Had to watch your back,
Had to watch your mouth,
Keep your eyes looking down
And get yourself respect,
Or you would be victim,
So get yourself in a crew,
It was the only way to ensure
The violence didn’t come after you.
But I’ve left this kind of life behind
No longer using fists
But using my mind,
Tuning in to the spiritual sublime,
Save myself just in time,
Synchronicity showed me the signs,
I seemed to understand
Just what they meant,
Maybe this was something
Universally sent,
Creation defined
And did not relent.
Whatever it was I am pleased to say
Everything good is coming my way,
My life now is not so bleak
No longer a battle
between the strong and the weak.
