From where I live
I hear the seagulls,
I smell the sea,
It’s a pleasure for me,
I visit the beaches
I sit on rocks
And I meditate
On its power,
Crashing waves
Against the shore,
Creating foam
And leaving
A deluge of seaweed behind.
But then I also sit
And bathe in its tranquillity,
Calm and lapping gently
Up and down the shore
And of a night I see the moon,
Reflecting off of it like glass
And I sit here,
Just watching time pass.
It’s an amazing place to be
The Jurassic cliffs behind me,
Showing orange soil colours,
Harbouring historical secrets
And occasionally people find
Prehistoric bones,
Laying in the soil at the base
Of the cliff as it erodes,
A glimpse back at the past
About just how fast,
The dinosaurs extinction came about
And the I get to thinking
Are we going the same way
And nature soon enough,
Will be humanities grave
But until that time I will fight
Climate change
And those who deny it
In their ignorant way.
Yet as I sit and meditate,
The only thing that
Penetrates my senses
Is the sound of the waves.
