Breathe in,
Breathe out,
There must be more to life than this,
Working simply to earn money,
Earning money to exist,
Pittance of pay
Don’t cover the bills,
Where is life’s spills and thrills,
There must be more to life than this.
You create your own life this is true,
But your still dominated by societies rules,
We struggle with the chains to breakout
But no matter how much we try
The chains just get tighter and there us no way out,
There must be more to life than this.
Our domestication runs so deep,
That fighting back against negativity
Is such hard work when you were raised to believe,
To accept the mundane and taught to act like sheep,
Following what everybody else does,
Going with the flow and not standing out,
Do what society expects you to do
Be good little citizens and play by the rules,
Even if they work against you
Even if unfair you do whats expected of you,
There must be more to life than this.
I heard a song once ask a question
Do they owe us a living?
And I was taught that they dont
That we should be grateful to the system,
Now a lot older my thoughts have changed
After all these years of working for a pittance of pay,
Giving up my life to work each day,
To make another person rich
Or to plough money into the state,
That goes to enrich politicians pay,
As we live in austerity I now say,
When they ask me the question
Do they owe us a living?
My reply is yes, of course they do
And that here must be more to life than this.
From the cradle to the grave
We struggle our way,
Through a life that they try to make so grey
But with our energy and unique ways,
We manage to create a light display,
Of love and hope built on dreams,
And try very hard to achieve those dreams,
But the question that keeps coming back to me is
There must be more to life than this.
