Crime and judgement

We sit in judgement over those who commit heinous crimes

And in many it angers them and instills red mist in their minds,

They scream out hate and bey for blood

How does that make them any better?

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind

And there no moral high ground in vengeance,

The truth is we have to get to the root of what makes them act that way

What caused this person to become so depraved,

We have to try and understand if we’re to stop this happening again,

And find someway to heal and reform them and all their flaws

And even though we cannot simply ignore,

The crime they commit but surely there’s more strength in forgiveness,

What use is there in revenge and mirroring act of wickedness.

  1. I’ve listened to a few lectures on this subject, and it is actually surprising how often a person was capable of heinous crimes due to actual physical injury to the brain. It’s both amazing and terrifying what a traumatic brain injury can do to a person.
