Do I care what you think about me
Twenty years working for the same company,
Tried it, did it, was I shown any worth
I’d have got less even if I was the last person on earth,
Companies don’t really appreciate what you do
They are just out to exploit you,
Work twenty years plus get a gold plated watch
Then they lay you off because they don’t give a toss,
How many jobs has the pandemic cost,
The company’s took the money to keep you on
But when the money dried up, they cut and run,
And you soon found out your employment was done,
Did they fight, did they struggle to protect your job
No, they just decided to cut their loss,
Do you think they’re scratching around for work and money now,
I don’t think they are because the money you earned them allows,
Them a life of comfort for a while
And when things start to calm down,
At the right time they’ll start up again
It’s you that feels the hardship and the pain,
Any show of loyalty to you they feigned,
They left you outside in the pissing the rain,
While they sat within their homes cosy and warm
Has the penny dropped yet had the idea dawned,
That in the life of work you’re merely a pawn,
To be used, then abused, then discarded
By corporations that are essentially cold hearted,
Don’t give your life up that easily
Because it will just leave you filled with misery,
Strike out and try to do much more
Kick down and open new doors,
Show them the same loyalty they showed you
Be the success you always wanted to be in truth.
