The art of being young

Teens sitting on corners of the street

Or in the shopping mall is a place to meet,

They say they’ve nothing better to do

Society don’t cater for them it’s true,

But they never did when I was young

In those days though we still had some fun,

Made our own enjoyment in the park

Out at first light and home before it’s dark,

We rode bikes and played football

A break from when we weren’t at school,

Jumpers for goal posts, and frolicking in rivers

Climbing trees, we were life livers,

Always found some kind of joy

Us as a group of girls and boys,

Finding ways to make a little money

For us life was kind of adventurous and funny,

We spent all our time it seemed laughing

Even though we had some disasters,

Like a friend we lost on a road

That’s another story to be told,

Like one who lost his mum and sister

But we wer there for them whatever,

Because we were closer than anyone can be

We as a group were a family,

I remember those days so well

Who could have known or could tell,

One day we’d all go our separate ways

But that is life and life is strange,

And now I am older the memories still make me smile

We had the imagination and the guile,

So I am not sure kids today can say

There’s nothing to do from day to day,

You have to create life for yourself

While you’re young and full of health,

Make the most of it and ensure its the best

Because when you’re older chances will be less,

Make these times your golden years

At a young age there less tears and fears,

To brave and way to cavalier

Bring home life and keep friends dear,

Your future will never be clear,

But it will hold you in good stead

You’ve only one chance one life and then you’re dead,

Make it full of fun and not one of dread.
