Dung beetles

Grovelling at the feet

Of those at the alter,

Doing the shit

That we shouldn’t oughta,

Doing it hoping to keep

Those who speak for us happy,

Those who preach,

Those who rule,

And those that teach,

Sniveling runts that’s what we are

That is what we’ve

Been taught so far,

Begging at the table

Hoping for crumbs to fall,

Dreaming one day

They’ll give us more,

More than just scraps

But were taught we lack,

What it is we need

So were made to live,

Our life on our knees

We don’t even wonder,

What if we rise up

Chance our arm,

Or try our luck

At demanding more,

We just settle for less

Believing this is the best

That we’ll ever get,

We are like dung beetles

We just live for this shit,

But just imagine

If we were to resist this,

Just imagine breaking out,

Just imagine breaking free,

Getting up off out of the dirt

Getting up off our knees,

Becoming a subvert

And making a unified stand,

Against those who keep us there

Imagine if we ever dared,

But it seems we won’t

It’s just a utopian pipe dream,

Imagine it, imagine the scenes

Of people living in peace

In love, harmony and equality,

But we are conditioned

To reject this a ridiculous

And as idiotic and foolhardy,

Taught to believe

It could never happen

In this, our society,

So we remain

Where they want us to be,

So we remain

Where I guess we’re happy.
