It seems there is a race
A race to Mars,
But maybe what we seek
Lays beyond further stars,
Proxima Centauri
May offer more hope,
Out there in space
We could find far more scope,
Among the region of
Alpha Centauri,
That’s where I believe
Our path will lead,
To new answers
And new possibilities,
This is where our explorations
Should focus on and where we should seek.
Proxima Centauri is utterly fascinating. A few years ago I read Stephen Baxter’s novel ‘Proxima’ which was based on a fictional planet around Proxima Centauri, Earth-sized, in the habitable zone and tidally locked to the star.
Then just a year or so later such a planet was discovered with all three of those characteristics. Unbelievable! Incredible coincidence, I always wondered how the author felt about that. And there’s a current project to send a probe to that system. Really interesting!
Yes absolutely, it definitely seems to me that this area of space exploration should be our main focus, as it appears to have more to offer.
