Down in the places where the destitute live
In rooms barely decent and other bedsits,
Accommodate those who have nothing
Struggling to survive in a place of muggings,
Thieving and drug taking and violence and fights
So it’s a real achievement trying to stay alive,
Keep your head down and stay behind your closed door
Because out in the neighbourhood there is a war,
Between those who are trying to get out and breakaway
And those who are trying to be the kings of this place,
This is not a life I crave but there’s not always a choice these days
It’s that or nothing I am ashamed to say,
Because that’s how our society in this day and age.
