This is a true story
About how I worked in a factory,
Few people ever spoke to me,
There were white English folk
Who showed no interest in me,
And I was only young you see
And this was very hard to be,
In a place of work where people did in speak
Then one da an Asian guy approached me,
And asked me how my day was going?
And he invited me to have lunch with him
And a group of his Asian friends,
They demanded nothing of me
Accepted I was shy and didn’t judge me on this,
They came from Afghanistan, India and Iraq
Pakistan, Iran and Syria, places from afar
Many different places but joined as one,
That’s why I can’t be racist because I understand
That no matter where you come from,
No matter class, faith or creed
Kindness is the glue, that can bond both you and me,
And that grasping that where we come from and our colour
Does not supersede our individuality,
And in our own way, as compressed atoms and energy
Kindness should be at the root of all of our humanity.
