Them and I

I don’t define myself as them

I just define myself as I,

I the individual

And I wear that badge with pride,

I don’t need to be part of a group

I am not them, I am just I,

Flawed and never perfect

On that count I am not going to lie,

When you define yourself with others

You become a target by those who oppose you,

But as just me I go undercover

So they never, ever see me coming,

I am not gender, I am not colour

I am no faith or political side,

I am not any of these things I am just I

And so I am not attacked by the different sides,

I being I means I am never offended

Because I never take things personally,

Because when the hate is on I don’t see that it’s about me,

Because it’s about them and I am not them

I am unequivocally, just simply I.
