The establishment reigns
Implacably it retains,
Control over the system
And it always maintains,
It’s grip upon the power
And the economy,
The establishment is not
A friend to you and me,
It holds us in our places
It lies to all our faces,
It’s a bunch of suits
It’s faceless,
And it denies us
Any real equality,
It retains the status quo
It divides us all each day,
Instills fear in many ways,
It’s like a spectre
It’s like a demon,
It’s never going to change,
Unless the people want that
And unify in defiance,
But people are passive
And they always stay silent,
The establishment
It counts on this,
As it maintains the separation
Between the poor
And between the rich,
A class system that’s built
Upon money, power and greed
And our passivity,
And unwavering loyalty
To this unfair society,
That plays off you and me
One against the other
Using sex, faith, colour and need,
And a delusional belief
That possessions and money
Is all you need to be truly happy,
And that keeps us
In the workhouses,
Living out within our minds
Some kind of hope and dream,
That one day we’ll be just like them
That one day we’ll succeed,
But the truth is very different
It’s not rooted in truth or reality,
The establishment is the system
And the system feeds,
On the money and the power
It drains from you and me,
The establishment is the system
And it is not your friend,
The establishment is the system
In fact it’s your enemy in the end.
