Viking raiders came from overseas
Brutal ways of enacting things obscene,
Raping, pillaging burning all
Hoping the Anglo-Saxon throne may fall,
So many raids and so many battles
Were waged up on the English shores,
The fear was palpable when vikings were abroad
They were a brutal lawless hoard,
From Scandinavian lands they would cause
The deaths of many in the thrall,
Of Odin and Valhalla’s names of which the Vikings truly adored
The lands they invaded the left burned and scorched,
And so by doing so in history their name is forged
Viking culture, viking laws, now in this time held in awe,
I wonder what they are glorified for
Surely not for their horrors, bloodshed and gore,
Yet somehow we want Norse mythology more
Then we ever thought we wanted before.

Quite. Why do we choose our heroes this way?
