In dreams I’ve stood at the gates of Helheim
And visited the Norse afterlife
Confronted by a God like Odin
He shed a preternatural light
All around this kingdom and I saw brave warriors who had fallen
Brutal men who had brutal hearts
And acted out the most brutal deeds
And all of this in the name of glory
And they were far more fierce
And they were far more terrifying
Then they were in the stories
Bloodied axes and swords as tall as me
That they used to carve a place in history
They became folklore, mythology
Despite the brutal thoughts and deeds.

It’s interesting how so many of our heroes were so brutal.
