Bright lights of the city
They dazzle me at night,
The steam from the pavement grills
Create an eerie sight,
I hear the hum of neon signs flashing
And the sounds of clattering,
As rats and cats run around
Each other battling,
In the big city shadows
Down the myriad of alleyways,
And on the main streets
Is where the rough sleepers find a place,
To hunker down in shop doorways,
On surfaces they thought were paved in gold
Just another dream, that they were mis- sold,
And the sweepers drive along the kerbs
Cleaning the best they can,
In the early late and early hours
When the big city land,
Finally rests for a short time
And when you look hard you will find,
The city type of people of the day
Are replaced by the lost and the strays,
The big city has two sided face
That could not be more different
It’s the glam versus the rat race,
And it’s mighty strange in every way
I think it’s the reason that I fled this place.
