We think we know people
But often we don’t,
Even those close to us
We don’t always know their traumas,
We don’t always understand their pain
We listen but don’t always hear,
And so that crying for help is missed
And we fail them and ourselves,
We need to be there for everyone
That needs help, that’s drowning,
In a sea of despair and past anguish
That haunts them and stalks them,
For some this is relentless,
Let people know you care
And let them know that you’re there,
And if it’s you that’s struggling
Don’t hide it or fight it alone,
Tell those who are there for you
Tell those that want to help,
And that want to understand,
Offering kindness and caring to others
Is the greatest gift that we can offer.
