Our illusory privilege

It’s the expectation that destroys us

The entitlement and privilege in which we feel,

That we have the right to a special life

Of wealth, fame and getting everything we desire,

Yet for reasons hard to explain, we expect it without work or pain

We seem to think that we should be worthy of gains,

Not just once but time and time again

And we put across a life that looks so amazing,

But the truth is it is not credible or sustaining

And when I look I wonder if it truly is fulfilling,

And does it really satisfy you and make you happy

By surrounding ourselves with crap we don’t need.

  1. a man once told me that everyone DESERVES the all the nicest things in the world–the greatest things in the world–but not everyone has EARNED it. It makes me think. I agree, in a way but also do not agree with it. What about the billionaires who just got their blessings passed on from their parents. Have they earned it? It’s an interesting conversation for sure!
