Don’t judge me on my background
Don’t judge me on my past,
Unless you know all the circumstances
Don’t you judge that fast,
I have come from hardship and nothing
I have weathered so many storms,
I have had to be stronger and harder
Than any average norm,
Everything that I have I worked hard to achieve
And every day I am still fighting,
So just do not dare judge me
Unless you have had to also fight and claw
For every last piece of life’s straw,
To ensure you save yourself from falling
It’s hard to live any other way when you’re poor,
You do what needs to be done
You strive so hard to be seen as someone,
And yet at the end of each day, month or year
It ends up exactly just how you feared,
Being invisible and seemingly irrelevant
Until someone wants to score points from you,
That just doesn’t make any sense
But when somebody wants to look good,
And they try and do this at your expense
Then you soon realise as you get tense,
How some may react badly and turn to violence
Because it’s hard to accept when it’s expected you always keep silent,
As they use and exploit you to make their name
Some people really have and know no shame,
So don’t go judging me on my background
So don’t go judging me on my past,
Because you don’t know my circumstances
And the perception you have you decided on way too fast.
