A plan to set you free

Look into my eyes

And I will look into your soul,

Bare yourself to me

And I will try to make you whole,

I will try to help heal your hurts

And ease any suffering,

I will offer you all my love

Without any suffocating,

Because I choose not to control

And that I seek no ownership,

Instead I want you to be free

Without attachment or reliance upon me.

  1. I think this was probably written in a romantic context, but it is so applicable across the board for relationships. “Teach them how to fly, set them free and watch them soar” is my child-rearing philosophy, which excludes the idea of control and ownership. But I once said to someone (not my mother but someone who wanted to be a mother figure): “your mothering is smothering”. Your poem was so reminiscent of that when you chose the word “suffocating”. I really like this poem, with its promotion of open and vulnerable, real and authentic love. Very nice.

    1. Thank you, it was indeed meant about all relationships we have had or may have with anyone. I am so pleased and humbled that it resonated with you so much friend. Helping people to heal or to become free enough to fly freely and soar is the greatest act of love we can give, without the expectancy of something in return or without control. 🙏Faux
