I saw them standing there in the street
Destitute with nothing to eat,
Viewing the wreckage of their home
This is life in an active warzone,
Desperate faces still shell-shocked
As well as no home there’s no neighborhood block,
And many that they knew who they loved have gone
Either died horrendously or went to hide,
Staving from lack of food and there’s no water
Treated each day as if they were just lambs for the slaughter,
They only cry dry tears now from dry eyes,
And surrounding them is an enemy
Hiding this truth with propaganda and lies,
Remnants of children who once lived in this street
Now just identified by clothing or teeth,
Same as their parents who tried protecting them
From the bombs and drones reigning down from the heavens,
People lay dead with bowls of food for their families to eat,
This is the worst form of any known brutality,
And the big nations they turn blind eyes
While innocent citizens suffer, burn and fry,
I hope this doesn’t affect your sensibilities as I echo the suffering people’s cries,
And what is it you do I ask? Do you not take sides
Or is it still too difficult for you to decide,
Well no sides need to be taken in this or any war
The ones on both sides who start it, fuel it, are the ones to abhor,
I wish politicians and rulers were made to fight it out
And simply just kill each other in this horrendous way, they won’t I doubt,
While leaving all the innocent people out is what I choose simply to say,
Because we have exhausted our efforts to simply pray,
For the end of all wars and a humanitarian change.
