I, the cataphract

Like a cataphract

I wade into the fray,

Knowing by the end

I’ll never be the same,

Battling in the dark

Fighting all the demons,

Looking for the light

To understand the reason,

For my very existence

And what I am here for,

Rooted to the centre

Focused upon the core,

Principles of honesty

And of kindness and love,

Knowing that my journey

Was going to be tough,

And to survive this fray

Not being bitter or in pain,

Could easily drive me insane,

But instead it was purifying

And it immolated my soul,

Helping me attain my goal,

But I still bare the scars

But I managed still to triumph,

And to live in happiness will be

My epitaph, when I no longer exist.
