Bricks and mortar
Material things
Are the more important
Than human beings
Why do we strive so much
To achieve these things
Yet lose touch of love
With people around you
Family and friends
Like we treat living
As a competition
Seeing if we can accrue
Big, better and more than you
Yet the sad thing is that
That honest truth
Is all these things
You can’t take with you
Unlike the love of people
That are all around
Which we can take with us
Even as we are lowered
Into the ground.
