Seeking love and compassion

From poverty in the projects in America

To the same visions in Brazil and its favelas

To the poor living in boats and shanti towns now

I ask you where is the love and the compassion

Where people live scraping out a way just to survive

Where children don’t expect to live a long life

Where food is seen as a luxury item

And where starvation is the cause of so many dying

I ask you where is the love and the compassion

When there are people in many countries begging on the street

Where we have third world societies

In a world of plenty but that is dominated by greed

I ask you where is the love and the compassion please

Why is there so little hope in this world for equality

And people are so obsessed by material things

And the rich exploit the poor for corporate greed

Forcing them to work in dangerous industries

I ask where is the love and the compassion

Where people risk their lives in the name of fashion

And Rio Tinto Zink kills so many in the mines

Delving for gems and diamonds so refined

And corporations hire poachers who are poor and twist their minds

Telling them to kill endangered species is fine

Or telling poor people cutting down the rainforest is designed

To give them a better life in future times

I ask you where is the love and the compassion in those lies

I ask you can we change the world by awakening minds

To see through these ignorant and arrogant times

And find a way to love and equality so we are not resigned

To repeating this lifestyle time after time

Where second best is still better than third world

Where the gap between top and bottom starts to gel

Into a space a lot smaller than it is now

Where people live for what they need instead of for greed

Where enough is a description of plenty

And the love and the compassion is evident for all to see.
