Expectation

Expectation is the road to disillusionment and heartache. So often we build things up in hope that wonderful and amazing things will happen. There is little wrong with hope but to build expectations up to levels unrealistic or to fanciful can lead to abject failure and unhappiness. Many times this can be a product of ego and sometimes arrogance or ignorance. If however expectations are built on solid ground with proof to back it up the risk of hopes being dashed are far less likely. However as long we stay grounded in our hope and realism, realising that nothing is ever predictable or certain in an impermanent illusory world we can avoid such disappointment. It is good to dream and good to hope but it is important to stay grounded in mind and life. It is good to wish and hope for world peace and an end to suffering but is it reasonable to believe it is imminent. No, not likely, so as long as we keep this hope and dream within realistic and reasonable parameters then we reduce the chance of angst and heartache.
