Where did them days go?
The days of my youth
Spent at punk concerts
And campaigning for truth
Standing up for CND
Animals rights as well as Greenpeace.
Though I still do my bit
I miss the crack
of getting out there in an all out attack
on those who try to damage this earth
I will fight For this planet with all of my worth
And stand up the animals that have no right to reply
I remember doing more to fight the good fight.
Angry young man my father said
But I did not mind worse things have been said
Whilst standing up at concerts against the SWP
And defending ourselves against the national front thuggish Nazis
But we still had time to have much fun
Drinking and pogoing all the night long.
Connecting with people we barely knew
Who also believe in fighting for truth.
These were the happy days of my life
Feeling that what we were doing was right
But family and work got in the way
And it’s hard to find time to get out and campaign
And the years have taken their toll I find
I am feeling the wear and tear of age and of time.
But I will still do whatever I can
To make a noise and make a stand.
It may not be intellectual or eloquent and grand
But I will get the message out there so all can understand.
So while I roam down this memory bliss
I will smile at the thought of the things that I did
As an angry young man or a compassionate activist campaigner
Fighting for this planet and species in danger.
